Men's Soccer tops Slippery Rock

Moessner scores twice in victory, now with five goals this year; Gretz collects two assists for first time in career

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 26) – The Vulcans broke a tie with a pair of goals in a nine-minute span in the second half to earn a 3-1 victory against Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.

NOTES
• California (3-3-3, 2-0) has posted a 3-1-2 mark in home games against Slippery Rock since 2021.
• The Vulcans, which went winless in divisional play last year, have won back-to-back games in PSAC West action for the first time since the 2021 campaign.
• Freshman Ryan Moessner posted a pair of goals in the win and is now tied with junior Jaime Marcelo Espinosa for the team lead with five goals this year.
• Senior Jacob Gretz became the first player with a multi-assist game since the 2023 season.
• Moessner opened the scoring in the 17th minute with assists from sophomore Jan Sebest and Gretz.
• Cal held a 1-0 lead at the break after attempting eight shots.
• The Rock tied the score at the 49:14-mark on its initial shot of the second half.
• Cal reclaimed the lead in the 62nd minute on a goal by Moessner following a feed from senior Seth Basinger.
• The Vulcans added an insurance goal from Espinosa with an assist from Gretz at the 69:49-mark.
• Cal finished the game with an 18-6 shot advantage after placing 10 attempts on goal.
• The Vulcans also held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks in the victory.
• Junior Justin Brink made one save while playing all 90 minutes.

• Cal continues its homestand on Wednesday, Sept. 30, when it faces nationally-ranked Gannon in PSAC West play at 6 p.m.
• The Golden Knights captured both the PSAC and NCAA Atlantic Region Championships in 2025.
