Vulcans earn shutout win in home opener over UPJ

Eaton scores first career goal in 19th minute; Rexroad, Seddon combine for five saves in shutout

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 2) – In front of one of the largest crowds in the 15-year history of the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility, the California (PA) women's soccer team claimed a 1-0 victory against Pitt-Johnstown in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play on Wednesday evening.

NOTES
• The Vulcans (1-1-0) extend their unbeaten streak in the series with the Mountain Cats to four games after the teams played a pair of scoreless ties last year.
• Cal took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute on the first career goal by sophomore Casey Eaton with an assist from junior Julia Flynn.
• The Vulcans made a goalie change at halftime and the Mountain Cats pressured the net with nine shots over the final 45 minutes.
• Freshman Kaleigh Rexroad collected three saves in the opening half, while junior transfer AJ Seddon posted two saves in her season debut.
• UPJ finished with a 14-4 shot advantage and held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks, including five in the second half.

• The Vulcans return to action on Saturday, Sept. 5, when they travel to face Lock Haven in PSAC West play at 1 p.m.
