Volleyball swept by UPJ to open divisional play

Vulcans commit 24 attack errors in sweep; Mountain Cats advanced to second round of 2025 NCAA Tournament

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 18) – The Vulcans opened Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action with a 3-0 loss (25-16, 25-15, 25-15) against Pitt-Johnstown at the Convocation Center on Friday evening.

NOTES
• California (PA) has lost six of the last seven matches in the series with UPJ.
• The Vulcans committed 24 attack errors and finished with a season-low .040 hitting percentage.
• Sophomore Olivia Weiseman finished with a team-high seven kills on 28 attempts.
• The trio of Junior Lindsey Scammell, sophomore Alayna Jones and freshman Abby Tucker each added four kills.
• Freshman Molly Smiddy posted 13 assists against UPJ.
• Junior Tori Newton and freshman Aubrey Bumblis tied for the team lead with six digs and Newton added three service aces.

• The Vulcans return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 22, when they host Malone (Ohio) in non-conference play at 6 p.m.
• The Pioneers were picked fourth in the preseason Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) East Division poll.
