California cruises past West Virginia Wesleyan

Vulcans commit seven attack errors, hit at .370 clip; Nine players record at least one kill in victory

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 15) – Behind its most efficient hitting percentage in over four years, the California (PA) volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 victory (25-11, 25-8, 25-18) against West Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday evening at the Convocation Center in non-conference play.

NOTES
• The Vulcans (5-6) have hosted the Bobcats in each of the last four meetings in the series  dating back to 2018.
• Cal finished the match with 37 kills and committed just seven attack errors on 81 attempts for a staggering .370 hitting percentage.
• Meanwhile, the Bobcats struggled with 31 attack errors and hit at a -.038 clip.
• Sophomore Olivia Weiseman  led the team with nine kills on 23 attempts for a .348 hitting percentage.
• Freshman transfer Abby Tucker collected seven kills on a .545 clip and freshman Madelyn Salisbury added six kills on a .455 hitting percentage.
• Freshman transfers Molly Smiddy and Gracen Hartman directed the offense with 17 and 11 assists, respectively.
• Junior transfer Tori Newton paced the defense with nine digs, while Tucker and junior Lindsey Scammell both led the team with three blocks.
• Freshman Aubrey Bumblis added three service aces in the victory.

NEXT
• Cal returns to the court on Friday, Sept. 18, when it hosts Pitt-Johnstown to open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play at 6 p.m.
• The Mountain Cats advanced to the semifinals of the both the PSAC Tournament and NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament in 2025.
