CALIFORNIA (May 1) – The Vulcans clinched a berth in the upcoming Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament following a doubleheader split against Seton Hill at Lilley Field in divisional play on Friday afternoon, posting a 5-4 walk-off win in Game 1 before suffering a 7-2 loss in Game 2.
NOTES
• California (18-26, 13-13) earned a berth to the league tournament for the sixth-consecutive year.
• The PSAC Tournament will be played at Grand Slam Park in Binghamton, New York, this spring after previously being held in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, since 2013.
• Seven of the 10 berths to the tournament have been secured entering the final days of the regular season.
GAME 1
• The Vulcans registered their fourth walk-off victory of the season, including three against divisional opponents.
• Cal took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI double by sophomore catcher
Kirra Davis and an RBI triple by sophomore second baseman
Amarah McCutcheon.
• The Vulcans stranded the bases loaded in the fifth before the Griffins delivered a three-run double in the top of the sixth, 3-2.
• Cal answered in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-3 lead on a two-run single by senior first baseman
Makaylia Schlosser with two outs.
• In the seventh, the Griffins tied the score with a solo homer by center fielder Kassidy Witting with two outs.
• The Vulcans responded in the bottom of the inning with three singles with senior outfielder
Mikayla Linkous scoring from third on a slow-rolling infield single by Davis.
• Linkous collected three hits and one run scored, while Davis finished with two hits, two RBI and one run scored.
• Sophomore third baseman
Makayla Jerin and McCutcheon also added two hits each in the victory.
• Senior
Cheyenne Beayon (1-3) earned the win after working 1.0 inning of relief.
• Freshman starting pitcher
Indyana Bolyea, who scored twice, took a no-decision after allowing three runs (all earned) on five hits with four strikeouts in 6.0 innings (96 pitches).
GAME 2
• The Griffins capitalized on an error to score a pair of unearned runs in the top of the first.
• In the second, Seton Hill stretched the lead to a 5-0 margin behind a two-run homer by designated player Shelby Telegdy.
• The Griffins added a pair of runs on just one hit in the fifth inning, 7-0.
• Cal avoided the shutout in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run homer by junior center fielder
Alexa Daniels – the first of her career in 100 at-bats.
• Daniels tallied a pair of hits, highlighted by the homer, while Bolyea collected two hits while starting in left field.
• Freshman starting pitcher
Abigail Singer (6-5) suffered the loss after surrendering five runs (three earned) on four hits in 1.2 innings (39 pitches).
• Senior
Megan Nidoh logged 2.0 scoreless innings of relief to close the game.
NEXT
• Cal closes out the regular season on Sunday, May 3, when it hosts a doubleheader against Pitt-Johnstown at Lilley Field, starting at 1 p.m.
