ERIE, Pa. (April 3) – The Vulcans split a doubleheader at Gannon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play on Friday afternoon, earning an 8-3 victory in Game 1 before suffering a 4-2 loss in Game 2.
NOTES
• California (10-18, 5-5) won its first road game in the series since 2013, as the teams had played a combined 10 games over the last two years.
• Sophomore third baseman
Makayla Jerin combined for four hits, three RBI and one run scored, while sophomore catcher
Kirra Davis scored three runs in the doubleheader.
GAME 1
• The Vulcans scored four runs in the fifth and added two runs in the seventh, 8-3.
• Sophomore second baseman
Amarah McCutcheon tallied two hits, two RBI, one run scored and two walks, while Davis belted a solo homer, drew two walks and scored three runs.
• Cal took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on a two-out RBI single by sophomore right fielder
Carissa Ring.
• Davis posted her team-leading seventh homer of the spring in the fourth before the Golden Knights answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning, 3-2.
• In the fifth, the Vulcans scored four runs with two outs on back-to-back, two-run doubles by McCutcheon and Jerin.
• Cal stretched the lead to 8-3 with a bases-loaded walk by Jerin and a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
• Freshman
Indyana Bolyea (1-4) earned the complete-game victory – her first career win – after allowing three runs (all earned) on seven hits with five strikeouts over 7.0 innings.
GAME 2
• The Vulcans avoided the shutout with a two-run homer in the seventh inning.
• Jerin collected three hits and scored one run, while freshman designated player
Alexa Edmunds registered a two-run homer.
• Gannon scored on a sacrifice fly in the third before scoring three additional runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth.
• Edmunds registered her fourth homer of the year after Jerin started the seventh with a single.
• Freshman
Abigail Singer (4-4) suffered the loss after yielding four runs (all earned) on eight hits in 5.0 innings.
