SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (April 24) – The Vulcans dropped a pair of one-run contests while being swept in a doubleheader at Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play on Friday afternoon, falling by a 1-0 margin in Game 1 and a 4-3 deficit in Game 2.
NOTES
• California (15-25, 10-12) was swept in the four-game series with Slippery Rock this year, including three games decided by one run.
• The Vulcans remain fourth in the PSAC West standings with six league games left in the season.
GAME 1
• Cal suffered its first 1-0 loss of the season despite out-hitting Slippery Rock by a 7-4 margin.
• The Vulcans stranded the bases loaded in the fourth before The Rock scored the game's lone run on a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the inning.
• In the fifth, Cal left runners on second and third while Slippery Rock stranded runners on the corners.
• The Vulcans later stranded a runner on third in the top of the seventh.
• Freshman
Indyana Bolyea (2-7) suffered the loss after allowing one run (one earned) on four hits in 6.0 innings (72 pitches).
• Senior shortstop
Jenna Hollerich and sophomore third baseman
Makayla Jerin both collected two hits.
GAME 2
• The Vulcans trailed by three runs before loading the bases in the seventh inning.
• Cal took a 1-0 lead on a two-out RBI single by Jerin in the top of the first.
• The Rock scored three runs in the third inning on two singles, two walks and a fielder's choice, 3-1.
• Slippery Rock added an insurance run in the sixth after starting the inning with three-straight hits.
• In the seventh, the Vulcans loaded the bases with no outs before scoring on back-to-back ground-outs to the left side of the infield.
• Senior first baseman
Makaylia Schlosser tallied two hits and one run scored.
• Freshman
Autumn Bielecki (7-7) was saddled with the loss after yielding three runs (all earned) on three hits and two walks in 5.0 innings (80 pitches).
