WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (March 8) – Led by a 9.0-inning complete game by junior
Beau Bigam, the Vulcans opened their trip to Florida with a 5-3 victory against St. Cloud State (MN) on Sunday afternoon.
NOTES
• California (5-3) is scheduled to play seven games this week while in Central Florida.
• Bigam allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk over 9.0 innings (104 pitches).
• He tossed his first career complete game against the Huskies on Sunday.
• The Vulcans took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a leadoff homer by redshirt freshman designated hitter
Chad Helwich.
• Cal added to the lead in the fourth on a two-out RBI single by junior catcher
Kyle Rizzo, 2-0.
• The Huskies left a pair of runners in scoring position in the top of the sixth before capitalizing on error in the seventh to score three runs, 3-2.
• Cal answered in the bottom of the inning with three runs on just two hits to reclaim the lead, 5-3.
• Senior first baseman
Colin Patterson delivered a two-run single and later scored on a sacrifice bunt.
• Helwich finished with three hits, including a solo homer, and two runs scored from the leadoff spot.
• Sophomore center fielder
Peyton Ford drew two walks and scored one run.
