AUBURNDALE, Fla. (March 9) – The California (PA) baseball team scored in each of the opening four innings on Monday afternoon while claiming an 11-5 win over Malone (OH) during its spring trip to Florida.
NOTES
• The Vulcans (6-3) last played the Pioneers in a doubleheader during the 2017 season in Washington.
• Five different players collected a multi-hit game for California which recorded double-digit hits for the first time since its season-opening series.
• Junior second baseman
Caleb Collins posted three hits, three RBI and one run scored, while junior third baseman
Jason Nuttridge tallied three hits, two runs scored and one walk.
• Redshirt freshman designated hitter
Chad Helwich finished with two hits, three RBI and two runs scored, while senior right fielder
Connor Evans collected two hits and two RBI.
• Sophomore center fielder
Peyton Ford registered two hits, one RBI and one run scored and senior first baseman
Colin Patterson reached base five times (four walks, one hit).
• The Vulcans took a 1-0 lead on an RBI double by Evans in the top of the first before the Pioneers tied the score in the bottom of the inning.
• Cal scored three runs in the second and another in the third with Collins tallying an RBI in both innings.
• Helwich delivered a two-run homer in the fourth, 7-1, before the Vulcans left the bases loaded in the fifth.
• Malone responded with back-to-back RBI extra-base hits with two outs in the bottom the inning, 7-3.
• The Vulcans added an insurance run in both the seventh and eighth innings before both teams scored twice in the ninth.
• Senior
Roman Gill (1-1) earned the win after allowing three runs (two earned) with four strikeouts over 5.0 innings.
• Sophomore
Coleman Fletcher recorded the save following 4.0 innings of relief, yielding two runs (both earned) and totaling five strikeouts.

• Cal returns to action with a pair of games against Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) programs tomorrow, Tuesday, March 10, in Davenport, Florida.
• The Vulcans face nationally-ranked Minnesota State at 10 a.m. before playing Minnesota Duluth at 1:30 p.m.
