CALIFORNIA (March 28) – In their first home games of the year, the Vulcans were swept in a doubleheader by Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play at Lilley Field on Saturday afternoon, suffering a 3-2 loos in Game 1 before being dealt an 11-1 run-rule defeat in Game 2.
NOTES
• California (8-16, 3-3) played 22 games this year before hosting its home opener at Lilley Field.
• The Rock has won five of the last eight road meetings in the series.
GAME 1
• The Vulcans and The Rock were tied at 2-2 before Slippery Rock scored the game-winning run in the top of the fifth.
• Freshman
Indyana Bolyea (0-4) suffered the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits over 7.0 innings (80 pitches).
• Cal took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a ground-out after senior shortstop
Jenna Hollerich led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
• The Rock tied the score in the second on a solo homer by left fielder Alyssa Massucci before taking a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth.
• In the bottom of the inning, freshman designated player
Alexa Edmunds delivered an RBI single to tie the score before Cal left runners on second and third, 2-2.
• Slippery Rock scored the game-winning run on a passed ball on a strikeout though Cal prevented a second run from scoring on the play.
GAME 2
• Slippery Rock scored three runs with two outs in the first before tallying eight runs in the top of the third.
• The Vulcans avoided the shutout when Bolyea scored on a fielder's choice in the fifth after reaching on a double.
• Freshman
Abigail Singer (3-3) was saddled with the loss after surrendering 10 runs (nine earned) on nine hits and two walks in 2.1 innings.

• Cal continues its homestand tomorrow, Sunday, March 29, when it faces Clarion in a doubleheader in PSAC West action at 1 p.m.
