SALEM, Va. (March 15) – The California (PA) softball team rallied to earn a split on Sunday at the Salem Invitational in Virgina, dropping an 8-3 contest to Davis & Elkins before posting a 10-6 win over Salem after scoring four-unanswered runs.
NOTES
• The Vulcans (5-13) finished with a 2-2 mark while in Virginia playing against Mountain East Conference (MEC) programs.

Alexa Edmunds and sophomore
Kirra Davis tied for the team with six hits at Salem with Davis also adding six RBI behind a pair of homers.
• Senior first baseman
Makaylia Schlosser collected five hits and five RBI over the weekend.
VS DAVIS & ELKINS
• The Senators (4-17) raced out to a 7-0 lead in the top of the first after scoring five unearned runs, highlighted by a grand slam from center fielder April Belcher.
• Cal cut the deficit to 7-3 in the third inning behind back-to-back RBI singles by Davis and Edmunds with two outs.
• Davis and Edmunds both posted two hits and one RBI, while senior shortstop
Jenna Hollerich finished with two hits, one run scored and two walks.
• Schlosser drew three walks in the contest.
• Freshman
Autumn Bielecki suffered the loss after surrendering seven runs (two earned) on four hits in 0.2 innings.
• Classmate
Indyana Bolyea allowed one run (earned) on four hits over 6.1 innings of relief.
VS SALEM
• The Tigers (3-9) led by three runs and later tied the score at 6-6 before the Vulcans tallied four-unanswered runs.
• Schlosser finished with three hits, three runs scored and one walk, while Davis posted two hits, three RBI, three runs scored and one walk.
• Edmunds collected two hits, one RBI, two runs scored and one walk in the victory.
• Salem held a 3-0 lead before freshman right fielder
Savanna Benish delivered a two-run double with two outs in the bottom of the second.
• The Vulcans then took a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the third behind an RBI single by Davis and a three-run homer by sophomore catcher
Amarah McCutcheon.
• In the fourth, the Tigers answered with three runs on five hits to tie the score at 6-6.
• Cal responded in the fifth with two runs with Edmunds tallying an RBI single in the inning.
• The Vulcans added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth on a two-run homer by Davis with two outs.
• Bielecki (2-4) earned the win after scattering two hits over 3.0 scoreless innings of relief.

• Cal returns to action on Friday, March 20, when it opens PSAC West play by hosting Seton Hill for a doubleheader at Lilley Field.
