BARTOW, Fla. (March 12) – The California (PA) softball team closed play at THE Spring Games on Thursday afternoon with a pair of losses, dropping a 10-6 contest to Ashland (OH) and falling by a 6-1 margin against Saint Martin's (WA).
NOTES
• The Vulcans (3-11) posted a 1-5 record while facing teams from six different states in Florida.
• Sophomore
Makayla Jerin led the team with a .429 average (6-for-14) and a .556 on-base percentage at THE Spring Games, while senior
Makaylia Schlosser hit a .375 clip (6-for-16).
• Freshman
Abigail Singer led the team with 11.0 innings pitched over three appearances, including two starts.
VS ASHLAND
• The Eagles (7-8) scored a combined seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
• Jerin finished with two hits, one run scored and two walks, while sophomore catcher
Kirra Davis belted a three-run homer.
• Cal took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI double by Schlosser before Davis later added a three-run homer with two outs.
• Ashland scored single runs in the second and third innings before taking a 5-4 lead with three runs (all unearned) in the bottom of the fourth.
• The Eagles added four more runs (all unearned) in the fifth and held a 10-5 lead entering the seventh when the Vulcans scored on a sacrifice fly.
• Senior
Megan Nidoh (1-2) suffered the loss after allowing four runs (all unearned) on four hits in 1.0 inning of relief.
VS SAINT MARTIN'S
• Cal was playing a current member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) for the fourth time since 2020.
• The Saints (11-11) scored a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
• Senior
Cheyenne Beayon (0-3) was saddled with the loss after yielding four runs (one earned) on seven hits in 6.0 innings.
• Cal tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the second on a two-out RBI single by junior center fielder
Alexa Daniels.
• Saint Martin's responded by scoring three runs (all unearned) with two outs in the third inning.
• The Saints added to the lead with a two-run homer by shortstop Shelby Lawson in the top of the seventh.
• Schlosser collected two of the team's five hits in the contest.
