MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (March 1) – Despite scoring three runs in the top of the ninth inning, the Vulcans closed play in West Virginia on Sunday afternoon with a 9-5 loss against Shepherd in non-conference action at Kendrick Family Ballpark.
NOTES
• California (3-3) lost all three games at the Atlantic Region Crossover by a combined 17-7 margin.
• The Vulcans were facing the Rams for the first time since 2020 when the teams met in North Carolina during spring break.
• Cal used four pitchers against Shepherd with senior
Roman Gill (0-1) suffering the loss after allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits in 4.1 innings (79 pitches).
• The Vulcans took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly before Shepherd tied the score in the bottom of the inning.
• After Cal scored on a ground-out in the third, Shepherd scored eight-unanswered runs to seize a 9-2 lead.
• First baseman Nik Rubendall belted a two-run homer in the fifth and the Rams later delivered a two-run single in the eighth.

Alex Arrigo collected a pinch-hit, two-run triple to right field before scoring on a two-out infield single by junior designated hitter
