ROLLA, Mo. (Feb. 3) – Following his standout play in two victories last week, California (PA) redshirt junior forward
Bryson Lucas was chosen as the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)/Division II Conference Information Directors Association (D2CIDA) National Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 1 on Tuesday afternoon.
Lucas averaged a double-double with 28.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, as the Vulcans earned a pair of wins to remained tied atop the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West standings. He also averaged 4.0 steals, 2.0 assists and 1.0 block per game while shooting a .595 clip (22-of-37) from the field, including 7-of-14 (50.0 percent) from beyond the arc.
A West Virginia native, Lucas finished with 27 points, nine rebounds, four assists, one block and five steals on Wednesday in an 84-77 victory at IUP. He helped spark a second-half comeback by the Vulcans, which trailed by 16 points with just over 15 minutes remaining. Cal returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 7, when it faces No. 6 Gannon in Erie, Pennsylvania, at 3 p.m. The Vulcans and Golden Knights enter the weekend tied for first place in the PSAC West standings with Cal winning 14 of its last 15 games dating back to Nov. 20.
