Men's Basketball posts victory over UPJ

Lucas registers seventh double-double of the year; Vulcans remain tied for first in West standings

CALIFORNIA (Jan. 31) – Led by a career-high 30 points from redshirt junior Bryson Lucas, the Vulcans claimed a 79-68 win on Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.

NOTES
• California (15-5, 12-1) extended its winning streak to four games and has won 14 of its last 15 contests.
• The Vulcans remain tied for first place in the PSAC West standings following the opening round of divisional play.
• Lucas scored 30 points on 12-of-19 shooting, including four-of-seven from beyond the arc.
• He also collected 12 rebounds and three steals for his seventh double-double of the season.
• Lucas is the eighth different player to score at least 30 points in a game over the last five seasons.
• Sophomore Keondre DeShields added 12 points and six rebounds off the bench, while classmate Jordyn Buchanan registered 13 points, four assists and two steals.
• Redshirt sophomore Antoine Arnett finished with 13 points and six rebounds in the win.
• The Mountain Cats held their final lead of the game at 12-11 with 13:56 left in the first half.
• Cal then mounted a 16-7 run to hold a 27-19 lead at the 7:50-mark and led by as many as 13 points, 37-24, later in the first half.
• The Vulcans held a 40-30 lead at the break after holding the Mountain Cats to under 35 percent shooting from the floor.
• UPJ worked the deficit to 44-41 before Cal responded with a 17-4 run over five minutes to take a 61-45 lead with 11:00 remaining.
• The Vulcans maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the contest.
• Cal finished the game shooting 47.8 percent (32-of-67) from the floor.
• The Mountain Cats held a slight 41-40 rebounding advantage, while the Vulcans forced 17 turnovers in the victory.

NEXT
• Cal returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 4, when it hosts Penn State-Fayette at Hamer Hall with tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
• The Vulcans will be hosting the nearby Lions for the first time since November 2015.
