SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (Jan. 24) – The Vulcans remain in a tie for first place in the divisional standings following an 86-75 win at Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.
NOTES
• California (13-5, 10-1) has won the last five meetings in the series with Slippery Rock, its longest winning streak against Slippery Rock in nearly two decades.
• Redshirt junior
Bryson Lucas registered his third double-double in the last four games after finishing with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
• He also added four blocks and three steals while playing 36 minutes in the victory.
• Sophomore
Jordyn Buchanan tallied 17 points and four rebounds, while redshirt sophomore
Antoine Arnett posted 12 points, six rebounds and three assists.
• Junior
Dalman Alexander recorded eight points, nine rebounds and two blocks.
• Senior
Brayden Reynolds scored 14 points and added two rebounds and three assists.
• Cal posted a 14-4 run early in the contest to build a 16-8 lead with 13:26 left in the first half.
• The Rock trimmed the deficit to four points, 28-24, at the 5:50-mark before the Vulcans rallied for eight-consecutive points in just over two minutes to take a 36-24 lead.
• Cal held a 43-31 lead at the break after shooting over 51 percent from the floor in the first half.
• The Vulcans extended the lead to 17 points, 51-34, before The Rock countered with a 13-3 rally to trim the deficit to 54-47 with 14:05 remaining.
• Cal later answered with a 10-2 run to stretch the lead to 68-53 at the 9:13-mark before Slippery Rock cut the deficit to two possessions with 5:06 left to play.
• The Vulcans stretched the lead back to double-digits for the majority of the final two minutes.
• Cal finished the game shooting 46.4 percent (26-of-56) from the floor despite going just 2-of-14 (14.3 percent) from beyond the arc.
• The Vulcans set a season high with 32 free-throws made and converted at a 78.0 clip (32-of-41) from the charity stripe.
• Slippery Rock held a 47-41 rebounding advantage and scored 40 points in the paint.
