BETHLEHEM, Pa. (Feb. 28) – Senior
Alice Etienne became the school's first-ever indoor league champion in the long jump on Saturday during the opening day of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships.
Etienne entered the weekend seeded second in the event behind sophomore teammate
Loreena Manser. Etienne captured the league crown with a distance of 5.88 meters (19-3.5 feet) on her sixth and final attempt. She was competing in the long jump at the indoor championships for the third time in her career after finishing fourth overall last year. Etienne was one of four entries to reach the NCAA provisional mark in the long jump on Saturday. Shippensburg had previously boasted the indoor league champion in the event six times over the last eight years.
The Vulcans rank fifth in the team standings with 24 points after scoring in four events during the opening day. Slippery Rock leads the meet with 50 points after accounting for double-digit points in four events on Saturday. Bloomsburg sits second with 30 points and Shippensburg ranks third with 27.5 points.
Manser received All-PSAC status in the long jump while also recording the fastest time in the preliminaries of both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash. She finished third overall in the long jump with a mark of 5.85 meters (19-2.5 feet) on her third attempt. Manser set a personal best in the 60 meters with a time of 7.51 seconds, which was 0.16 faster than the rest of the preliminary field. The Virginia native posted a time of 24.76 seconds in the 200 meters to top the field by six-tenths of a second in the preliminaries.
Etienne and Manser became the program's first All-PSAC indoor honorees in the long jump since Joanna Nist in 2008.

Rosalyn Perozzi placed fifth overall with 12 minutes, 18.95 seconds. The Vulcans have registered a top-five finish in the distance medley relay seven times over last 12 championships, highlighted by five-straight league titles from 2014-18.
Sophomore
Anna Schuessler scored in the pole vault for the third time in her career. She finished sixth in the event after clearing 3.50 meters (11-5.75 feet) on her second attempt at the height. Senior
Jing McCann placed eighth overall in the weight throw with a heave of 14.61 meters (47-11.25 feet) on her first attempt.
In addition to Manser, the Vulcans also qualified an additional entry for the finals in both the 60 and 200 meters. Sophomore
Riley Tighe placed third in the preliminaries with a time of 7.74 seconds to win the third heat of the 60 meters. Freshman
Amanda Mercurius finished fourth overall in the 200 meters with a time of 25.69 seconds.
Cal is set to have entries compete in nine events tomorrow, Sunday, March 1, on the final day of the PSAC Championships with events starting at 11:30 a.m.
