MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Feb. 27) – After the game was scoreless through six innings, the Vulcans suffered a 4-1 loss against Bloomsburg on Friday afternoon at Kendrick Family Ballpark during the opening day of the Atlantic Region Crossover, co-hosted by Fairmont State and Salem.
NOTES
• California (3-1) faced Bloomsburg for the first time since the 2018 campaign when the teams met twice in North Carolina during a spring trip.
• Junior
Beau Bigam (1-1) suffered the loss after surrendering four runs (one earned) on six hits and one walk in 6.2 innings (81 pitches).
• Bigam also established a career high with seven strikeouts while making his second start of the year.
• Freshman
Nate Persinger worked 1.1 scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts, while sophomore
Coleman Fletcher tossed 1.0 inning of scoreless relief versus the Huskies.
• The Vulcans stranded runners on second and third in the bottom of the third before having a runner thrown out at the plate while attempting to score on an inside-the-park home run.
• Bloomsburg manufacture a run in the top of the seventh with a leadoff walk and a sacrifice bunt before delivering a two-out RBI single.
• The Huskies then capitalized on a pair of two-out errors in the inning that led to three runs, 4-0.
• In the bottom of the eighth, senior first baseman
Conor Carney collected a two-out RBI single after redshirt freshman center fielder
Chad Helwich started the inning with an infield single.
• Carney and Helwich both tallied a pair of hits in the contest, as the Vulcans finished with eight hits and zero walks.

• The Vulcans continue play this weekend tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 28, with a single contest versus Salem in Nutter Fort, West Virginia, at Frank Loria Memorial Field with first pitch set for approximately 3 p.m.
