LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Oct. 26) – Following his dynamic play in the Coal Bowl, California (PA) sophomore wide receiver
Kenny Lewis IV was selected the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Offensive Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Lewis was named Coal Bowl MVP on Saturday night, as the Vulcans earned a 49-0 victory against rival IUP on Homecoming. He set a career high with 173 receiving yards on seven catches, including two touchdowns. Lewis helped Cal race out to a 7-0 lead when he caught a 41-yard touchdown on the game's opening possession. The Pittsburgh native later made a 52-yard touchdown reception with 6:35 left in the second quarter to extend the lead to a 28-0 margin. Five of his seven receptions resulted in either a touchdown or first down.
A 5-foot-10 sophomore, Lewis ranks second in the PSAC with 681 receiving yards and 48 receptions. He also leads the league with nine touchdown receptions. Lewis has made at least seven catches five times and caught multiple touchdowns in three games. Last year as a true freshman, the Gateway product finished with 306 receiving yards and one touchdown on 29 catches.
Lewis joined Chedrick Cherry (2010) and Trey Johnson (2012) as Cal wide receivers to earn Coal Bowl MVP honors since the rivalry game was given that name in 2010.
The Vulcans return to action on Saturday, Oct. 31, when they travel to face Lock Haven in PSAC West play at 6 p.m. The Bald Eagles shifted back to the Western Division this year following more than a decade in the Eastern Division. During that span, Cal faced Lock Haven five times in crossover action, including three times in the past five years.
