SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (Jan. 24) – Playing on the road for only the second time this calendar year, the California (PA) women's basketball team fell by a 74-61 margin at Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action on Saturday afternoon.
NOTES
• The Vulcans (9-12, 5-6) previously won the last 10 meetings in the series with The Rock.
• Sophomore
Hope Hawkins set a career high with 20 points on 10-of-19 shooting.
• She also added six rebounds and one steal while playing 28 minutes.
• Junior
Kennedy Bankett finished with 12 points, eight rebounds (six offensive), three assists and two steals in the loss.
• Classmate
Kimaya Williams posted seven points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals at Slippery Rock.
• The Vulcans and The Rock combined for five ties in the first quarter and Slippery Rock held an 18-16 lead despite being held scoreless for over four minutes.
• Cal scored eight-unanswered points in the second quarter before entering halftime trailing by a 29-26 margin.
• The Vulcans trailed by as many as six points early in the third quarter before mounting a 10-1 run to claim a 42-39 lead at the 3:47-mark.
• Slippery Rock later responded with nine-consecutive points and held a 50-47 lead at the end of the third quarter.
• The Rock stretched the lead to 12 points, 63-51, with 5:38 remaining before the Vulcans cut the deficit to two possessions at the 3:48-mark.
• Slippery Rock held Cal to only one field goal for the remainder of the game while claiming the 74-61 victory.
• The Vulcans finished the game shooting 41.1 percent (23-of-56) from the floor.
• Slippery Rock held a slight 33-32 rebounding advantage, while Cal scored 34 points in the paint.
