CLARION, Pa. (Jan. 14) – The Vulcans suffered their first loss since before Thanksgiving on Wednesday night when they dropped an 81-75 contest at Clarion in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.
NOTES
• California (11-5, 8-1) previously won nine of the last 10 meetings against Clarion with the lone loss during that span coming on the road in 2023.
• Redshirt sophomore
Antoine Arnett scored a game-high 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting and 7-of-10 from the free-throw line.
• Junior
Dalman Alexander posted 15 points, six rebounds, two assists and two blocks at Clarion.
• Sophomore
Jordyn Buchanan finished with 21 points behind four three-pointers and added eight rebounds.
• Freshman
Jordan Clayton totaled six rebounds and six assists in his third career start.
• The teams combined for five lead changes and two ties in the opening 11-plus minutes of the game.
• The Vulcans held their final lead of the game, 18-17, with 9:32 left before halftime yet trailed by no more than seven points before the Golden Eagles took a 40-36 lead at the break.
• Cal cut the deficit to just two points in the opening minute of the second half before Clarion pushed the margin to as many as nine points on two occasions.
• The Vulcans trailed 63-62 at the 6:37-mark while in the midst of a span of six-plus minutes without a field goal.
• Cal later face a 73-70 deficit before Clarion made seven free-throws and a three-pointer down the stretch to seal the victory.
• The Vulcans finished the game with a .491 field-goal percentage (28-of-57) yet made just 4-of-18 from beyond the arc.
• Cal held a 42-26 rebounding advantage and scored 44 points in the paint.
