Men's Basketball upsets No. 9 Gannon

Vulcans shoot nearly 65 percent in second half; Lucas leads team in scoring, rebounding

CALIFORNIA (Jan. 10) – The California (PA) men's basketball team scored nearly 60 points in the second half to capture its first victory over a top-10 team in more a decade with a 99-88 win over No. 9 Gannon at the Convocation Center in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action on Saturday afternoon.

NOTES
• The Vulcans (11-4, 8-0) extended their winning streak to 10 games and now own sole possession of first place in the PSAC West standings.
• Cal earned its first win over a nationally-ranked team since the season-opener last year, plus posted its first home victory over a top-25 team since January 2024.
• The Vulcans registered their first win over a top-10 team since winning at No. 5 IUP during the 2013-14 campaign.
• Redshirt junior Bryson Lucas posted his fourth double-double this year with 25 points and 14 rebounds.
• Sophomore Jordyn Buchanan collected 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including four-of-eight from long range, and added four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
• Senior Brayden Reynolds tallied 20 points, four rebounds and three assists, while freshman Jordan Clayton finished with 14 points, five rebounds and three steals in 30 minutes off the bench.
• Gannon opened the game with a 19-7 lead before Cal cut the deficit to 27-22 with 9:52 left in the first half.
• The Golden Knights responded by extended the lead to 40-29 at the 5:58-mark and later held a 47-42 advantage at the break.
• Cal kept the score within two possessions early in the second half before mounting a 12-2 run to take a 70-67 lead with 10:30 left to play.
• The Vulcans later mounted a 14-3 rally over a three-minute span to build an 86-74 at the 6:37-mark.
• Cal later stretched the lead to as many as 13 points, 92-79, on a three-pointer by Reynolds with 2:27 remaining.
• The Vulcans shot a blistering 63.6 percent (21-of-33) in the second half to close the game with a .559 field goal percentage (38-of-68).
• Cal finished with a 42-33 rebounding advantage and scored 56 points in the paint.

• The Vulcans return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 14, when they travel to Clarion in PSAC West play at 7:30 p.m.
