California earns two wins to close HOF Classic

Weiseman paced team with 43 kills over the weekend; Vulcans hit at .219 clip in three matches

NORTH CANTON, Ohio (Sept. 6) – The California (PA) volleyball team completed a season-opening weekend sweep on Saturday with victories against host Walsh (OH) and Lake Erie (OH) at the Hall of Fame Classic.

NOTES
• The Vulcans (3-0) started the year with a trio of victories in Ohio, including a pair of wins over Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) programs on Saturday.
• Freshman Olivia Weiseman paced the team with a combined 43 kills over the weekend, while junior Sarah Stephenson registered 40 kills in the victories.

NOTES VS WALSH
• Cal rallied to earn a 3-2 victory (25-22, 22-25, 19-25, 25-21, 15-11) over the host Cavaliers.
• Stephenson tied her career high with 18 kills while hitting at a .324 clip.
• Weiserman finished with 13 kills, 15 digs and four service aces, while senior Elisa Rugiero collected 11 kills against Walsh.
• Senior Adrianna Favata registered 28 assists, eight digs and three service aces, plus sophomore Morgan Johnson added 19 assists in the win.
• Senior Caroline Mercer posted a team-leading 16 digs and junior Kay Lindenfelser finished with 11 digs.
• Freshman Ava Norfolk and sophomore Lindsey Scammell recorded five and four blocks, respectively, versus the Cavaliers.

NOTES VS LAKE ERIE
• The Vulcans captured a 3-1 victory (25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 25-16) against Lake Erie.
• Weiserman paced three players in double-digit kills versus The Storm, totaling 13 kills.
• Stephenson collected 12 kills on a .323 hitting percentage and Rugiero finished with 10 kills.
• Favata and Johnson guided the offense with 22 and 21 assists, respectively.
• Weiserman recorded a team-high 20 digs for her third kill/dig double-double of the weekend and Mercer posted 19 digs.
• Norfolk controlled the net with a team-leading five blocks in Ohio.

NEXT
• The Vulcans returns to action with three matches on Sept. 12-13 at the Shannon Sullivan Memorial Tournament hosted by Kutztown.
• Cal will face teams from three different states, starting against Caldwell (NJ) on Friday, Sept. 12.
