WHEELING, W.Va. (Sept. 4) – Behind goals from three different players, the California (PA) men's soccer team started the season with a 3-0 victory at Wheeling on Thursday night in non-conference action.
NOTES
• The Vulcans (1-0) earned their first victory in the series with the Cardinals since 2016 (0-1-2).
• Cal also registered its first shutout win in a season-opener since the 2011 campaign.
• The teams nearly entered halftime in a scoreless tie before the Vulcans took a 1-0 lead at the 43:08-mark when sophomore

• Cal added to the advantage in the 57th minute when senior transfer Ben Sauerländer scored off an assist from sophomore

AJ Visco made five saves while recording his first career shutout on Thursday.
• The Cardinals finished with a slight 12-11 shot advantage yet held a sizeable 14-3 edge in corner kicks after being credited with 11 corners half in the second half.
