Vulcans sweep Glenville State in home opener

Rugiero tallies 11 kills, six blocks in win; California reaches double-digit victories this fall

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 23) – Playing its first home match of the season, the California (PA) volleyball team recorded a 3-0 victory (25-23, 25-18, 25-17) over Glenville State on Tuesday evening at the Convocation Center in non-conference play.

NOTES
• The Vulcans (10-2) have already won as many matches this fall as the last two seasons combined.
• Senior Elisa Rugiero led the team with 11 kills and committed only one attack error while hitting at a .400 clip.
• Freshman Olivia Weiseman and junior Sarah Stephenson both added nine kills in the win.
• Senior Adrianna Favata and sophomore Morgan Johnson directed the offense with 16 and 14 assists, respectively.
• Weiseman paced the defensive effort with 14 digs and senior Caroline Mercer totaled 11 digs, plus Johnson finished with nine digs.
• Sophomore Lindsey Scammell controlled the net with seven blocks and Rugiero was credited with six blocks versus the Pioneers.
• In the opening set, Cal called a timeout trailing 21-18 before rallying to claim seven of the final nine points.
• The Vulcans committed just two attack errors in the second set while posting a .333 hitting percentage.
• Cal won 10-consecutive points in the third set to build a 17-6 lead and utilized 15 players in the set.

• The Vulcans continue their homestand on Friday, Sept. 26, when they face Bloomsburg in non-conference action at the Convocation Center, starting at 6 p.m.
