WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. (Sept. 19) – The California (PA) volleyball team posted a split in matches during the opening day of the Atlantic Region Crossover on Friday afternoon, suffering a 3-1 loss to host West Liberty before earning a 3-0 victory against defending-Mountain East Champion (MEC) West Virginia State.
NOTES
• The Vulcans move to 8-1 this season after now playing three teams from the MEC this week.
• Five different players tallied a combined double-digit kills on Friday.
• West Liberty and West Virginia State combined for nearly 40 victories last year with the Yellow Jackets winning their first-ever MEC Championship.

• Cal suffered a 3-0 loss (26-24, 25-20, 25-20) to the host Hilltoppers after being held to a season-low .129 hitting percentage.

Olivia Weiseman led the team with nine kills and sophomore
Anna-Marie Petricevic added seven kills on Friday.

Morgan Johnson finished with 16 and 14 assists, respectively, in the loss.

NOTES VS WEST VIRGINIA STATE
• The Vulcans committed just three attacking errors in each of the final two sets to capture a 3-0 victory (25-22, 25-18, 25-22) over the Yellow Jackets.
• Weiseman registered 10 kills on a .345 clip, while Petricevic, Rugiero and junior
Sarah Stephenson each collected eight kills in the victory.
• Favata and Johnson guided the offense with 14 and 13 assists, respectively.
• Weiseman posted her sixth kill/dig double-double this fall with a team-leading 15 digs.
