Vulcans claim two sweeps at Kutztown

Cal opens with six-straight wins for first time since '08; Weiseman paced team with 36 kills over weekend

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (Sept. 13) – The California (PA) volleyball team swept matches against Bowie State and host Kutztown on Saturday at the Shannon Sullivan Memorial Tournament to finish the weekend with an undefeated mark for the second time in as many weeks.

NOTES
• The Vulcans (6-0) have opened the year with six-consecutive victories for the first time since the 2008 campaign when they set a school-record 40 wins.
• Freshman Olivia Weiseman led the team with 36 kills over the weekend and junior Sarah Stephenson registered 28 kills and 11 blocks.

NOTES VS BOWIE STATE
• Cal tallied a 3-0 victory over Bowie State (25-19-25-23, 25-20) after finishing with 14 service aces.
• Stephenson recorded 11 kills on a .500 hitting percentage, while sophomore Anna-Marie Petricevic tallied nine kills in the win.
• Senior Adrianna Favata and sophomore Morgan Johnson posted 19 and 10 assists, respectively, to guide the offense.
• Freshman Ava Norfolk collected seven service aces and four blocks against the Bulldogs.
• The trio of Johnson, Weiseman and junior Kay Lindenfelser paced the team with eight digs.

NOTES VS KUTZTOWN
• The Vulcans 3-0 win (25-23, 25-19, 25-16) over the host Golden Bears while hitting at a .277 clip.
• Petricevic and Stephenson tied for the team lead with 12 kills and Weiseman added 11 kills in the victory.
• Favata registered 25 assists and Johnson finished with 15 assists at Kutztown.
• Weiseman paced the team with a season-high 21 digs for her fourth kill/dig double-double of the fall.
• Senior Caroline Mercer posted 14 digs and Favata collected 11 digs for her first assist/dig double-double this year.
• Sophomore Lindsey Scammell and Stephenson finished with five and four blocks, respectively.

• Cal returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 16, when it travels to face Point Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at 6 p.m.
