Five Vulcans receive academic laurels

CALIFORNIA (June 3) – The California (PA) baseball team placed five players on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Payton Conte, junior Jake Kramer, senior Santino Marra, senior James Salvatori and junior Michael Valente received laurels from the organization. Marra and Salvatori earned the accolade for the third time in their careers, while Conte, Kramer and Valente collected the honor for a consecutive year.

A native of California, Conte tied for the team lead with 52 RBI and posted a .352 average (63-for-179), .403 on-base percentage and .525 slugging percentage. He repeated as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Athlete of the Year and was a consensus all-region honoree for the second-straight spring. Kramer broke the single-season school record and the all-time PSAC record for saves this spring. He was recently tabbed a National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-American following a season in which he posted a 4-1 record and 11 saves over 22 appearances. Kramer maintains a 3.65 GPA while pursuing a degree in finance and personal financial planning with a minor in accounting.

The school's all-time hits leader, Marra finished second in the PSAC with a .398 average (68-for-171) and ranked third in the league with a .480 on-base percentage. He also totaled 15 doubles, five homers and 40 RBI while being a consensus all-region selection for the second time in his career. Marra finished his master's degree in professional accountancy last month with a 3.60 GPA after earning his bachelor's degree in accounting with a minor in finance in 2024 while maintaining a 3.63 GPA.

In his first season with the program, he hit at a .292 clip (38-for-130) with five homers, 22 RBI and 26 runs scored while making 40 starts. Salvatori previously received academic all-district honors in each of the last two years while being a standout at West Liberty in the Mountain East Conference (MEC).

The 2025 PSAC Champion Scholar, Valente tied the single-season school record with 10 wins. He was a consensus all-region selection this spring after ranking among the conference leaders in victories, ERA, WHIP and strikeout-to-walk ratio. Valente boasts a 4.00 GPA while majoring in management with a minor in marketing.
