CLARION, Pa. (April 24) – The Vulcans recorded a doubleheader split at Clarion in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play on Thursday afternoon, suffering an 8-0 run-rule loss in Game 1 before earning a 9-0 victory in Game 2.
NOTES
• The California (PA) softball team (15-29, 12-12) was playing a road doubleheader for a consecutive day.
• The Vulcans have won three of four games in the series with the Golden Eagles in three-consecutive years.
• Cal posted a shutout victory for the second time in as many days.
GAME 1
• The Golden Eagles scored multiple runs in an inning three times to force the run-rule victory.
• Clarion took a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run homer by catcher Jordy Best.
• The Golden Eagles later led by a 5-0 margin following a two-run single in the third inning.
• Clarion added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, including a solo homer by first baseman Desi Allen.
• Senior
Taylor Babcock (8-7) was saddled with the loss after allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks in 2.0-plus innings (34 pitches).
GAME 2
• Five different players tallied a multi-hit game in the victory.
• Freshman designated player
Amarah McCutcheon finished with two hits, three RBI and two runs scored, while junior shortstop
Jenna Hollerich posted two hits and two RBI.
• Senior left fielder
Carlena Fiorilli and freshman third baseman
Makayla Jerin both collected two hits and two runs scored on Thursday.
• Senior center fielder
Brianna Sersevic registered two hits, one RBI and one run scored, while junior first baseman
Makaylia Schlosser totaled three RBI.
• Junior
Cheyenne Beayon (4-10) earned the victory after scattering four hits in 6.0 scoreless innings (67 pitches).
• Cal claimed a 3-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Sersevic before McCutcheon followed with her 11th homer of the spring.
• Hollerich delivered a two-out RBI single in the third and McCutcheon added an RBI single in the fourth.
• The Vulcans scored four runs in the top of the seventh with Schlosser delivering a three-run double and Hollerich following with an RBI double.

• Cal continues its road trip tomorrow, Friday, April 25, when it travels to play a doubleheader at Slippery Rock in PSAC West action at 2 p.m.
