Baseball drops contest to WV Wesleyan

Seven players tally multi-hit games against Bobcats; Cal scores eight runs over last two innings

AUBERNDALE, Fla. (March 4) – Despite scoring 10 runs over the final three innings, the Vulcans suffered their first loss of the season on Tuesday afternoon by dropping a 16-13 contest against West Virginia Wesleyan in non-conference play while in Florida.

NOTES
• The California (PA) baseball team (5-1) played its first game against a MEC program and set a season high of 23 hits.
• Senior designated hitter Nathan Meeks tallied three hits, three RBI and four runs scored, while sophomore center fielder Ikon Jones collected four hits, two RBI and one run scored.
• Senior first baseman Payton Conte posted two hits and one RBI and senior left fielder Ryan Callahan registered three hits and two runs scored.
• Junior right fielder Connor Evans finished with four hits, two RBI, two runs scored and one stolen base and senior second baseman Santino Marra finished with two hits, two runs scored and one walk.
• Sophomore third baseman Caleb Collins added two hits, one RBI and one walk in the contest.
• WVWC scored seven runs in the top of the fourth to take a 9-3 lead.
• The Bobcats added two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings before the Vulcans scored on two-out RBI singles by Evans and Collins in the seventh, 13-5.
• Cal added five runs in the eighth behind a two-run double by Meeks before RBI singles from Evans and Jones.
• The Vulcans scored three runs in the ninth, including a two-run double by freshman shortstop Peyton Ford with two outs, before leaving two runners in scoring position.
• Junior starting pitcher Luke Treloar (0-1) suffered the loss in his first appearance of the season.

• Cal continues its spring trip tomorrow in Davenport, Florida, with a doubleheader against Ohio Dominican, starting at 3:30 p.m.
