ERIE, Pa. (March 29) – The Vulcans were swept in a doubleheader at Gannon on Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play, dropping a 7-3 contest in Game 1 before suffering a 4-3 walk-off loss in Game 2.
NOTES
• The California (PA) softball team (5-23, 2-6) has already played five games decided by one run this spring.
• Freshman
Amarah McCutcheon tallied a combined four hits, including a solo homer, on Saturday.
GAME 1
• The Vulcans tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the second on a two-out RBI single by McCutcheon.
• Gannon scored a pair of unearned runs in the second before adding another run in the third, 4-1.
• The Vulcans responded with two runs in the fourth before the Golden Knights scored three runs with two outs in the bottom of the inning, including a two-run homer.
• McCutcheon and freshman third baseman
Makayla Jerin both tallied two hits and one RBI, while senior second baseman
Kaitlyn Achtermeier finished with two hits and one run scored.
• Junior starting pitcher
Cheyenne Beayon (2-8) suffered the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) in 3.0 innings.
GAME 2
• The Golden Knights took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first behind a two-run homer.
• Cal answered with a solo homer by McCutcheon, her fourth of the year, in the third.
• The Vulcans tied the score at 3-3 after scoring two runs on three hits and one walk in top of the sixth.
• Junior first baseman
Makaylia Schlosser lined an RBI single before Jerin tied the score on a sacrifice fly.
• Gannon opened the seventh with a single before winning on a walk-off RBI double to right center.
• McCutcheon and senior center fielder
Brianna Sersevic both collected two hits and scored one run.
• Senior
Taylor Babcock (1-6) was saddled with the loss after surrendering four runs (all earned) on seven hits in 6.0 innings.
