JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (March 25) – Behind a muti-homer game by freshman
Kirra Davis, the California (PA) softball team claimed a doubleheader split at Pitt-Johnstown in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action on Tuesday afternoon with an 8-7 loss in Game 1 and an 8-5 win in Game 2.
NOTES
• The Vulcans (5-21, 2-4) have split their last two twinbills after scoring a combined 33 runs over the four games.
• Davis belted a pair of homers in the victory after entering the game with zero homers in 40 at-bats this season.
• She is the first player with multiple homers in a game since
Shayna Postler in the 2023 PSAC Tournament.
GAME 1
• Cal scored three runs in the top of sixth before UPJ earned a walk-off victory by tallying three runs in the seventh inning.
• Freshman third baseman
Makayla Jerin collected three hits and scored one run, while senior left fielder
Carlena Fiorilli reached base three times (two walks, single).
• The Mountain Cats took a 4-0 lead in the third inning before the Vulcans tied score in the top of fourth with four runs on four hits, one walk and one error.
• Fiorilli scored from second on an RBI single by sophomore right fielder

Makaylia Schlosser later tallied a two-out RBI double.
• Cal added runs on an error and RBI single by freshman designated player

• UPJ took a 5-4 lead on a solo homer in the fifth before Cal responded with three runs in the sixth.
• Fiorilli drew a bases-loaded walk and the Vulcans capitalized on a two-out error that allowed multiple runs to score, 7-5.
• The Mountain Cats tied the score in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run homer before claiming the walk-off victory on a two-out single.

Megan Nidoh (1-5) suffered the loss after surrendering four runs (all earned) on eight hits and three walks in 4.2 innings of relief (97 pitches).
GAME 2
• Davis registered six RBI behind a two-run homer and a grand slam.
• Schlosser collected two hits and scored one run, while Fiorilli again reached base three times (two walks, single).
• Cal took a 2-0 lead in the third on three hits and an error before Davis belted a two-run homer in the top of the fourth.
• The Mountain Cats cut the deficit to 4-3 in the sixth after loading the bases to start the inning.
• Davis registered the grand slam with one out in the top of the seventh inning before UPJ scored twice after collecting three extra-base hits in the bottom half.
• Senior
Taylor Babcock (1-5) earned the complete-game victory after allowing five runs (all earned) on nine hits in 7.0 innings (112 pitches).
NEXT
• The Vulcans return to the diamond when they travel to face Gannon in Erie, Pennsylvania, for a doubleheader in PSAC West play on Saturday, March 29, at 1 p.m.
• The Golden Knights made the NCAA Tournament last spring, their first appearance since the 2019 campaign.
