GREENSBURG, Pa. (March 18) – The California (PA) softball team was swept in a doubleheader at Seton Hill on Tuesday afternoon to open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action, dropping a 9-1 run-rule contest in Game 1 before falling by a 6-4 count in Game 2.
NOTES
• The Vulcans (3-19, 0-2) had won six of the previous 10 road games in the series with the Griffins.
• Freshman
Amarah McCutcheon tallied a combined four hits, three RBI and two runs scored in the twinbill.
GAME 1
• The Vulcans were limited to just two hits yet had base runners in scoring position three times in five innings.
• Seton Hill took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first before adding a pair of solo homers in the second inning.
• The Griffins extended the lead to a 6-0 margin in the third on another solo homer and a two-run double later in the inning.
• Cal avoided the shutout with an RBI single by McCutcheon in the fourth before Seton Hill forced the run-rule victory with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
• Senior starter
Taylor Babcock (0-5) was saddled with the loss after allowing three runs (all earned) on six hits in 2.0 innings (35 pitches).
GAME 2
• The Griffins claimed a 2-0 lead in the first before adding one run on a two-out double in the bottom of the third.
• Cal responded with a two-run homer by McCutcheon, her team-leading third of the season, in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to a 3-2 margin.
• Seton Hill countered with a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning before adding an insurance run in the fifth.
• The Vulcans delivered a bases-loaded, two-run double in the sixth by second baseman
Kaitlyn Achtermeier, 6-4.
• Freshman starter
Makenna Curran (0-3) suffered the loss after surrendering five runs (all earned) on seven hits and two walks in 3.1 innings (62 pitches).
