FAIRMONT, W.Va. (March 14) – The Vulcans were walked-off twice in a doubleheader sweep at Fairmont State in non-conference play on Friday afternoon, suffering a 6-5 loss in Game 1 before falling by an 8-6 margin in Game 2.
NOTES
• California (3-17), which has lost seven-straight games, has suffered four walk-off losses this season.
• The Vulcans were playing the Fighting Falcons for the first time since the 2013 campaign.
• Senior left fielder
Carlena Fiorilli posted a combined five hits with two doubles, two RBI and four runs scored from the leadoff spot.
• Cal has scored a combined 13 runs in the first inning in four games this week.
GAME 1
• The Vulcans took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a pair of sacrifice flies.
• Fairmont State responded with five runs on five hits and one walk in the bottom of the inning, 5-2.
• Cal scored twice in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 5-4 on an RBI double by Fiorilli and a sacrifice fly.
• The Vulcans tied the score with a two-out RBI single by senior center fielder
Brianna Sersevic in top of the seventh.
• The Fighting Falcons earned the 6-5 walk-off victory following a pinch-hit RBI single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning.
• Fiorilli tallied three hits, one RBI, two runs scored and one walk in the contest.

Megan Nidoh (1-3) suffered the loss after allowing one run (earned) on two hits and three walks in 3.0-plus innings of relief (53 pitches).
GAME 2
• Cal claimed a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run homer by junior shortstop
Jenna Hollerich – her first since the 2022 season when she play at Wheeling.
• The Vulcans extended the lead to 4-1 in the top of the fifth with a pinch-hit RBI double by freshman
Makayla Jerin and an RBI single by Sersevic.
• Fiorilli added an RBI double in the sixth inning before Fairmont State countered with a three-run homer by catcher Abbie Keilhoz to the score at 5-5.
• Cal reclaimed the lead in the top of seventh on a two-out, bases-loaded walk by junior right fielder Mikayala Linkous.
• In the bottom half, the Fighting Falcons tied the score with a two-out RBI single before second baseman Grace Soebeck belted a two-run, walk-off homer.
• Fiorilli and Hollerich combined for four hits, three RBI and three runs scored at the top of the lineup.
• Sersevic added two hits and one RBI in the losing effort.
• Junior starting pitcher
Cheyenne Beayon (1-7) was saddled with the loss after surrendering eight runs (all earned) on 13 hits in 6.2 innings pitched (97 pitches).

• The Vulcans are slated to open PSAC West play on Tuesday, March 18, with a doubleheader against Seton Hill in nearby Greensburg, Pennsylvania, at 2:30 p.m.
