MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (March 12) – The Vulcans used five pitchers to combine for a 6-0 nine-inning shutout victory against Davis & Elkins on Wednesday night at Mylan Park in non-conference action.
NOTES
• The Vulcans (9-2) extended their winning streak to four games and are averaging over eight runs per game this season.
• Redshirt junior starting pitcher
Roman Gill (1-1) earned the win after working 6.0 scoreless innings with zero walks and three strikeouts.
• Freshman
Colin Watson and junior
Hayden Zaffino each tossed 1.0 scoreless inning in the victory.
• Cal took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second without collecting a hit and capitalized on back-to-back errors.
• The Vulcans added to the lead with an RBI ground-out in the fifth and an RBI single by sophomore second baseman
Caleb Collins in the sixth.
• Cal scored a pair of insurance runs in the seventh inning to extend the lead to a 6-0 margin.
• Senior left fielder
Ryan Callahan posted two hits and one run scored, while senior third baseman
Nathan Meeks collected one hit, two RBI and two runs scored.
