Jordyn Buchanan tying his career high with 27 points, the Vulcans suffered an 84-66 loss at No. 11 West Liberty at the MEC/PSAC Conference Challenge on Saturday night.
NOTES
• California (0-2) lost back-to-back games to open the year for the first time since the 2019-20 campaign.
• Buchanan scored 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including 6-of-11 from beyond the arc.
• He previously finished with 27 points in the quarterfinals of the 2025 PSAC Tournament.

Dalman Alexander posted 16 points, three rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

• Cal posted 13 -4 run over four-plus minutes to take a 31-19 lead at the 8:53-mark.
• The Hilltoppers countered with 17-unasnwered points to seize a 36-31 lead with 1:22 left before the break.
• West Liberty held a 38-33 advantage at halftime after going 4-of-16 from long range in the first half.
• The Vulcans posted 12-3 rally early in the second half to claim a 47-44 lead with 14:54 remaining.
• The Hilltoppers later responded with a 15-5 run over five minutes to hold a 65-57 advantage at the 6:28-mark.
• Cal trailed by just two points, 65-63, with 4:147 left to play before West Liberty closed the game on a 19-4 rally.
• The Vulcans finished the game with a .491 field-goal percentage (27-of-55), including 7-of-17 (41.2 percent) from beyond the arc.
• West Liberty held a 36-29 rebounding advantage and finished the game with 21 assists 31 field-goals made.
