WACO, Texas (Oct. 6) – After suffering a rare home loss over the weekend, the California (PA) football team fell 10 slots to No. 16 in the latest American Football Coaches (AFCA) Top 25 poll on Monday afternoon.
The Vulcans (4-1) held a 7-6 lead entering the fourth quarter on Saturday afternoon before dropping a 16-7 contest against Seton Hill, which lost the previous 12 meetings in the all-time series. Cal has posted a 43-12 record for a .782 winning percentage at Adamson Stadium over the last 10 seasons. The Vulcans were positioned among the top 10 in each of the previous four editions of the poll, reaching as high as No. 6 last week following a road victory at then-No. 4 Slippery Rock in Week 4.
Cal remains one of three teams from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) positioned in the national poll. Kutztown (5-0) continues to sit at No. 4 after cruising to 49-0 win against Shippensburg in Week 5, while Slippery Rock (3-2) tumbled 10 positions to No. 24 after being dealt a 38-35 upset loss at Gannon on Saturday.
Additionally, Super Region One continues to boat a pair of teams in the latest top-25 poll. Virginia Union (4-1) of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) moved up one position to No. 17 following a 44-34 win at Winston-Salem State. Frostburg State (5-0) – the Week 9 opponent for Cal – of the Mountain East Conference (MEC) jumped two slots to No. 21 after rolling a 33-7 victory against Concord.
Cal returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 11, when it travels to face Edinboro in PSAC West play at 2 p.m. The Vulcans have won the last 19 meetings in the series with the Fighting Scots, dating back to the 2004 campaign.
