SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (Oct. 4) – Despite junior
Sarah Stephenson registering the most kills in nearly a decade, the California (PA) volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss (25-19, 25-20, 18-25, 28-26) at Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.
NOTES
• The Vulcans (13-3, 1-1) suffered their first loss since Sept. 20, snapping a five-match winning streak.
• Stephenson established a career high with 25 kills on 50 attempts for an impressive .420 hitting percentage.
• She tallied the most kills in a match since Danielle Hayes finished with 27 kills over five sets on Sept. 27, 2016.
• Additionally, Stephenson is the first player to record 25 kills in a four-set match since Joanna Nist in 2006.

Lindsey Scammell posted eight kills on Saturday.

Adrianna Favata tallied 27 assists and added 13 digs for her second assist/dig double-double of the weekend.

Olivia Weiseman registered 13 digs at Slippery Rock.

Ava Norfolk totaled six blocks on Saturday.
• In the first set, Cal held a 19-18 lead before Slippery Rock rallied to win seven-consecutive points to capture a 25-19 victory.
• The Rock opened the second set with six-unanswered points and later held a 16-7 lead.
• The Vulcans then won six of seven points to cut the deficit to 17-13 before eventually falling by a 25-20 margin.
• The third set featured a combined 14 ties and seven lead changes on Saturday.
• The score was tied at 18-18 before Cal closed the set by winning seven-straight points, 25-18.
• In the fourth set, The Rock won seven of eight points to build a 13-5 lead and later held a 21-16 advantage.
• Cal rallied to claim six-straight points to tie the score at 22-22 before eventually falling by a score of 28-26.
