Volleyball claims sweep over Pitt-Johnstown

Weiseman leads team in kills, digs for 10th double-double; Cal finishes with .280 hitting percentage

CALIFORNIA (Oct. 10) – Behind a balanced offensive attack, the Vulcans registered a 3-0 victory (25-20, 25-22, 27-25) against Pitt-Johnstown in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play at the Convocation Center on Friday evening.

NOTES
• The California (PA) volleyball team (14-3, 2-1) earned its first home win in league action since Oct. 21, 2023.
• Freshman Olivia Weiseman led the team with both 13 kills and 13 digs on Friday for her 10th kill/dig double-double of the year.
• Senior Elisa Rugiero tallied 11 kills on a .318 hitting percentage and sophomore Anna-Marie Petricevic finished with 10 kills in the victory.
• Sophomore Morgan Johnson posted 19 assists and senior Adrianna Favata added 15 assists against the Mountain Cats.
• Junior Kay Lindenfelser registered 12 digs on Friday.
• Early in the first set, Cal won eight of 10 points to take a 10-5 lead before UPJ cut the deficit to a 15-13 margin.
• The Vulcans later claimed five of six points to post the 25-20 victory while hitting at a .293 clip.
• In the second set, the Mountain Cats held six-point lead before the Vulcans rallied off nine-consecutive points to take a 22-19 advantage and later won by a 25-22 margin
• Cal and UPJ combined for 16 ties and seven lead changes in the third set on Friday.
• The Vulcans won six of seven points early in the set to take a 9-5 lead before the Mountain Cats countered with six of eight points to claim a 13-12 advantage.
• Cal won three of the final four points to secure the match victory at the Convocation Center.
• The Vulcans snapped a four-match losing streak in the series with the Mountain Cats, which has won all 12 sets during that span.

• Cal continues its weekend action tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 11, when it travels to face IUP in PSAC West play at 6 p.m.
