CLARION, Pa. (Oct. 3) – The Vulcans earned their first road victory in the series with Clarion since 2018 with a 3-0 win (25-11, 25-21, 25-22) to open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play on Friday evening.
NOTES
• The California (PA) volleyball team (13-2, 1-0) captured its first divisional victory since Oct. 21, 2013, snapping a 20-match losing streak.
• The Golden Eagles entered play having won nine of last 10 overall meetings in the series.
• Junior
Sarah Stephenson led all players with 13 kills on a staggering .542 hitting percentage after committing zero errors on 24 total attacks.
• Freshman
Olivia Weiseman tallied 10 kills on a .346 clip and sophomore
Anna-Marie Petricevic added seven kills on Friday.
• Senior
Adrianna Favata registered an assist/dig double-double with 19 assists and 11 digs, while sophomore
Morgan Johnson finished with 10 assists and nine digs.

Caroline Mercer paced the defense with 13 digs, as Weiseman also totaled nine digs.

Lindsey Scammell was credited with six blocks in the victory.
• The Vulcans committed just nine attacking errors on Friday while establishing a season-high .315 hitting percentage.
• In the first set, Cal raced out to a 10-3 lead and later held an 18-8 advantage before the teams alternated the next five points.
• The Vulcans eventually clinched the set by winning the last five points.
• Cal held a 10-4 lead in the second set before Clarion cut the deficit to three points, 16-13.
• The Vulcans won five of the next six points and withstood a late rally to win the set by a 25-21 margin.
• In the third set, Cal won five-unanswered points to build a 13-7 lead before Clarion later trimmed the deficit to one point, 21-20.
• The Vulcans responded by winning four of the next six points to secure the match victory, 25-22.
