Vulcans outlasted in road match vs Seton Hill

Favata posts seventh double-double of the year; California plays second five-set match this fall

GREENSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 21) – In the first of two meetings between the teams this week, the California (PA) volleyball team was outlasted by a 3-2 count (22-25, 25-14, 21-25, 25-5, 15-12) at Seton Hill in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play on Wednesday evening.

NOTES
• The Vulcans (15-7, 2-5) have lost seven-straight matches to the Griffins dating back to the 2021 season.
• Junior Sarah Stephenson led the team with 10 kills, while senior Elisa Rugiero and freshman Olivia Weiseman both added nine kills.
• Senior Adrianna Favata registered her seventh assist/dig double-double of the year with 23 assists and 14 digs.
• Sophomore Morgan Johnson tallied 19 assists in the match.
• Senior Caroline Mercer led the team with 24 digs and Weiseman collected 12 digs.
• Freshman Ava Norfolk and sophomore Lindsey Scammell both posted four blocks in the loss.
• Midway through the first set, Cal won five-straight points to tie the score and closed the set by winning of five of six points, 25-22.
• The Griffins claimed six of seven points early in the second set to build a 12-6 lead  and used a similar run to finish the set with a 25-14 victory.
• In the third set, the Vulcans won four of six points midway through play to build a 19-14 advantage before capturing the 25-21 win.
• Seton Hill opened the fourth set with 16-consecutive points, as Cal managed just one kill while dropping the set by a 25-5 margin.
• The Vulcans rebounded with a .320 hitting percentage in the decisive fifth set, which featured five ties and two lead changes.
• Cal trailed by just an 11-10 margin before Seton Hill rallied off three-consecutive points and eventually posted the 15-12 victory.

• Cal returns to action on Friday, Oct. 24, when it hosts Seton Hill at the Convocation Center, starting at 6 p.m.
