INDIANA, Pa. – The California (PA) swimming team opened its season by placing fifth in a pair of scored events hosted by IUP on Friday afternoon.
NOTES
• The Vulcans finished fifth in the team standings while competing in both the Crimson Hawk Fall invitational and Sprint Frenzy.
• Freshman
Ashlyn Zeier reached the league-qualifying standard in the 100 backstroke while making her collegiate debut on Friday.
• Zeier placed fourth in the 100 backstroke with a qualifying time of 1:02.20 during the Fall Invitational.
• She also finished fifth in the 50 backstroke with a time of 29.66 in the Sprint Frenzy.

Ella Root placed fourth in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 33.08 seconds on Friday.
• Cal posted its top relay finish in the 200 freestyle relay during the Sprint Frenzy, as Zeier, freshman
