ERIE, Pa. (Jan. 4) – The Vulcans trailed No. 9 Gannon by just four points with under 90 seconds left to play before falling on the road by a 71-62 margin on Saturday afternoon in the opening game of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.

• California (6-7. 3-4) has played four of its last five games on the road dating back to Dec. 6.
• Senior
Talia Gilliard led the team with 15 points behind a trio of three-pointers.
• She also added six rebounds and two assists while playing 35 minutes.
• Classmate
Sierra Bermudez scored 14 points after going 8-of-10 from the free-throw line.
• Sophomore
Nina Shaw tallied 11 points, four assists and three steals and classmate
Kimaya Williams led the team with nine rebounds (four offensive).
• Senior
Allycia Harris posted eight rebounds (four offensive) and four steals before fouling out in 21 minutes.
• The Vulcans opened the game with a 10-3 lead before the teams were tied at 18-18 at the end of the first quarter.
• The Golden Knights held a 36-29 lead at the break after shooting over 50 percent in the first half.
• Gannon stretched the lead to nine points before Cal tied the score at 49-49 in the final minute of the third quarter.
• The Vulcans trailed by a 66-62 margin with 1:22 left to play before the Golden Knights scored the final five points of the game.
• Cal finished the game shooting 30.0 percent (18-of-60) from the field and set a season high with a .792 free-throw percentage (19-of-24).
• The Vulcans totaled 39 rebounds in the contest behind 17 offensive rebounds.
