EDINBORO, Pa. (Jan. 25) – The California (PA) women's basketball team was unable to convert a potential game-winning shot in the closing seconds on Saturday afternoon and suffered an 80-79 loss at Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.
NOTES
• The Vulcans (10-9, 6-6) have lost nine of the last 10 road meetings in the series with the Fighting Scots dating back to 2016.
• Senior
Allycia Harris led the team and tied her season high with 18 points on 8-of-16 shooting.
• She also added five rebounds (three offensive), four assists and two steals while playing 32 minutes.
• Junior
Alicia Young posted 16 points and four rebounds in the loss.
• Seniors
Talia Gilliard and
Iyahnna Williams both scored 13 points on Saturday.
• Sophomore
Kimaya Williams led the team with six rebounds (four offensive) in 21 minutes off the bench.
• Senior
Sierra Bermudez finished with seven points and a team-leading six assists at Edinboro.
• The Vulcans held a 24-14 lead at the end of the first quarter after out-scoring the Fighting Scots by a 15-6 margin over the last three minutes.
• Edinboro posted a 14-3 run early in the second quarter to cut the deficit to one point, 29-28, at the 5:12-mark.
• The Vulcans then scored nine-straight points and later took a 40-35 lead at halftime.
• Edinboro registered a 10-2 rally late in the third quarter and held a 59-58 lead at the end of the quarter.
• The teams combined for six lead changes and four ties in the fourth quarter on Saturday.
• Cal scored six-straight points to tie the score at 72-72 with 2:51 remaining.
• The Vulcans later held a 79-78 lead with 43 seconds left before the Fighting Scots responded with the eventual, game-winning layup on the next possession.
• Cal finished the game with a .444 field-goal percentage (32-of-72), while Edinboro shot at a 59.3 clip (32-of-54).
• The Vulcans collected 15 offensive rebounds and matched a season low with nine turnovers.
