Women's Basketball earns victory at UPJ

Gilliard posts back-to-back, 20-point games; Shaw matches career high with eight assists in win

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (Jan. 18) – The Vulcans allowed just five field-goals in the second half on Saturday afternoon while claiming a 70-52 victory at Pitt-Johnstown in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.

NOTES
• California (9-8, 6-5) extended its winning streak in the series with UPJ to 21 games, dating back to the 2013-14 campaign.
• Senior Talia Gilliard scored a game-high 23 points on 8-of-17 from the floor and five-of-eight from the free-throw line.
• She also collected six rebounds (three offensive) and two steals while playing 36 minutes.
• Gilliard has registered back-to-back, 20-point games after entering the week averaging a career-high 9.4 points per game this season.
• Sophomore Kimaya Williams led the team with 10 rebounds (four offensive) and finished with six points, three assists, one block and two steals off the bench.
• Senior Allycia Harris totaled five points, five rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals in the win.
• Sophomore Nina Shaw set a season high and tied her career high with eight assists while adding eight points, two rebounds and two steals on Saturday.
• The Vulcans held a 19-14 lead at the end of the first quarter behind seven points by Gilliard.
• UPJ tied the score twice early in the second quarter before Cal took a 35-33 lead into halftime.
• The Vulcans mounted a 14-1 run in the opening portion of the third quarter to seize a 49-35 lead at the 4:11-mark.
• The Mountains Cats trimmed the deficit to single digits, 54-64, with 8:10 left in the four quarter before the Vulcans later countered with 11-unanswered points.
• Cal finished the game shooting 42.1 percent (24-of-57) from the floor and attempted 30 free-throws in the victory.
• UPJ converted only 1-of-12 shots (8.3 percent) from beyond the arc on Saturday.

• The Vulcans return to action on Monday, Jan. 20, when they host Penn State-Beaver in non-conference action at the Convocation Center, beginning at 1 p.m.
