CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Sept. 7) – The California (PA) football team scored 19-straight points in the middle quarters on Saturday afternoon before suffering a 23-19 season-opening loss to defending-Mountain East Conference (MEC) Champion and No. 23 Charleston (W.Va.).

Bobbie Boyd, Jr. finished with 119 rushing yards and one touchdown on 22 attempts, his third career 100-yard game.

Eric McKan III added 73 rushing yards on 14 carries on Saturday.

Davis Black posted 161 passing yards on 19-of-37 attempts with two interceptions, plus one rushing touchdown.

Eric Willis III totaled 54 receiving yards on six catches.

GAME RECAP
• The Golden Eagles (2-0) held a 14-0 lead in the first quarter before the Vulcans scored on a field goal with 12:38 left before halftime.
• Cal cut the deficit to 14-10 at the break when Black scored on a 1-yard touchdown run as time expired on fourth-and-goal.
• The Vulcans added a field goal on the opening possession of the third quarter before taking a 19-14 lead on a 42-yard touchdown run by Boyd at the 5:46-mark.
• UC capitalized on an interception early in the fourth quarter with a 68-yard touchdown run, 20-19.
• The Golden Eagles added a 45-yard field goal with 2:22 remaining after recovering a fumble on a punt return by the Vulcans.
• Cal advanced into the red zone with just over 60 seconds left to play before a turnover on downs.
