California posts win at West Chester

Black finishes with 320-plus yards of total offense; Vulcans allow seven points through three quarters

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (Sept. 14) – Senior quarterback Davis Black accounted for four touchdowns, including three rushing scores, as the Vulcans claimed a 38-28 victory at West Chester in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

NOTES
• Black finished with 248 passing yards on 15-of-24 attempts with one touchdown and zero interceptions.
• He also added 73 rushing yards and three touchdowns on eight carries with a long of 60 yards.
• Black has scored nine rushing touchdowns over 12 games with the program, highlighted by a pair of three-score performances.
• Sophomore Bobbie Boyd, Jr. posted 95 rushing yards on 16 attempts and senior Eric McKan III totaled 69 rushing yards and one touchdown on 12 carries.
• Junior wide receiver Eric Willis III finished with 109 yards and one score on three receptions.
• Senior linebacker John Hutchinson led the team with nine tackles, while senior defensive back Dominic Solomon, Jr. added eight stops, 1.0 sack and four pass break-ups.
• Sophomore linebacker Grant Hopple and sophomore defensive back Khalil Taylor both tallied seven tackles and Taylor made 1.0 sack.

GAME RECAP
• California (1-1) scored on the game's opening possession when McKan posted a 1-yard touchdown run with 10:15 left in the first quarter.
• The Vulcans added to the lead with a 20-yard field goal by senior Anthony Beitko in the initial seconds of the second quarter.
• West Chester (0-2) trimmed the deficit to 10-7 with 5:44 left before halftime after the drive started with a 40-yard completion.
• The Vulcans scored twice in less than one minute late in the second quarter to take a 24-7 lead at the break.
• Black posted a 1-yard touchdown run at the 1:06-mark before sophomore defensive back Alexie Sangster, Jr. made an interception on the initial play of the ensuing drive by the Golden Rams.
• Black connected with Willis for a 39-yard touchdown with 17 seconds left in the second quarter.
• Cal took a 31-7 lead with a 3-yard touchdown run by Black in the third quarter before West Chester countered with a touchdown on the opening play of the fourth quarter, 31-14.
• The teams traded touchdowns within a span of minute midway through the fourth quarter with Black registering a 60-yard touchdown run with 5:20 left to play.
