Volleyball falls twice at Millersville

Six players make debuts with Vulcans; S. Johnson tallies eight blocks versus host Marauders

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (Sept. 6) – Under first-year head coach Audrey Emerich, the California (PA) volleyball team (0-2) dropped both matches on Friday while opening the season at the Marauder Clash with losses to Roberts Wesleyan and host Millersville.

NOTES VS ROBERTS WESLEYAN
• The Vulcans suffered a 3-1 loss (25-23, 17-25, 26-24, 25-14) to the Redhawks with the match featuring a combined 18 ties in the first and third sets.
• Junior Elisa Rugiero paced the team with 13.5 points behind nine kills and three blocks, plus tallied 14 digs and two service aces.
• Sophomore Sarah Stephenson also collected nine kills in the match.
• Junior Adrianna Favata registered 19 assists and freshman Morgan Johnson finished with 13 assists and two service aces.
• Senior Allie Droneberger led the team with 16 digs on Friday afternoon.
• Five newcomers made their debuts with the program versus the Redhawks.

NOTES VS MILLERSVILLE
• Cal dropped a 3-2 contest (25-23, 20-25, 21-25, 25-10, 15-10) to host Millersville after totaling a combined 27 kills in the second and third sets.
• Sophomore Elizabeth Patina set a career high and led the team with 11 kills on a .323 hitting percentage.
• Stephenson finished with 10 kills and Droneberger added eight kills versus the Marauders.
• Favata collected an assist/dig double-double with 16 assists and 18 digs, both tied for team highs.
• Johnson also registered 16 assists in the match.
• Droneberger tallied 18 digs and junior transfer Caroline Mercer added 17 digs on Friday night.
• Senior Sophia Johnson was credited with eight total blocks (five solo) and senior transfer Natalie Beer finished with five blocks (two solo).

• The Vulcans continue play tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 7, with neutral matches versus Wilmington (Del.) and Jefferson in West Chester, Pennsylvania, starting at 1 p.m.
