California posts split at West Chester

Emerich earns first career victory as head coach; Stephenson collects 18 kills, seven blocks in win

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (Sept. 7) – The Vulcans claimed a split of matches on Saturday afternoon at the PSAC East Kickoff Tournament hosted by West Chester, highlighted by head coach Audrey Emerich recording her first career victory.

NOTES VS WILMINGTON
• California earned a 3-2 win (25-23, 25-27, 25-20, 22-25, 15-13) over Wilmington after recording a .293 hitting percentage in the match.
• Sophomore Sarah Stephenson set career highs with 18 kills, seven blocks and 22 points on Saturday afternoon.
• Senior Allie Droneberger tallied a kill/dig double-double with 14 kills and 18 digs, plus four service aces, while classmate Sophia Johnson collected 10 kills and six blocks.
• Junior Adrianna Favata established a career high with 32 assists and freshman Morgan Johnson finished with 20 assists.
• Junior transfer Caroline Mercer paced the team with 19 digs.

NOTES VS JEFFERSON
• The Vulcans suffered a 3-0 loss (25-20, 25-19, 25-16) against the Rams with the first set featuring 15 ties.
• Stephenson led the team with eight kills and Droneberger finished with seven kills.
• Morgan Johnson paced the team with 14 assists and Favata tallied 12 assists.
• The trio of Mercer, Favata and sophomore Elizabeth Patina tied for the team with seven digs.
• Droneberger and senior transfer Natalie Beer each finished with four blocks.

• Cal returns to action next weekend with three matches while hosting the Vulcan Invitational at the Convocation Center on Sept. 13-14.
