Vulcans earn two victories at home event

S. Johnson, Rugiero combine for over 50 points; Cal hit over .340 clip in win against Bloomsburg

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 13) – The California (PA) volleyball team earned victories over both Bloomsburg and Point Park at the Convocation Center on Friday while hosting the Vulcan Invitational.

NOTES VS BLOOMSBURG
• The Vulcans cruised to a 3-0 win (25-15, 25-21, 25-18) over the Huskies after hitting a staggering .344 clip.
• Junior Elisa Rugiero totaled a season-high 15 kills on 25 attempts for a .480 hitting percentage.
• Seniors Allie Droneberger and Sophia Johnson added eight and six kills, respectively, with Johnson also collecting four blocks.
• Junior Adrianna Favata led the team with 18 assists and freshman Morgan Johnson finished with 15 assists versus Bloomsburg.
• Junior Tayla Pascoe paced the defense with 11 digs on Friday.

NOTES VS POINT PARK
• California (3-3) registered a 3-1 victory (19-25, 25-7, 25-22, 25-21) against the Pioneers, which are in their first season as a NCAA Division II program.
• Sophia Johnson shattered her career high with 12 blocks, which are the most in a match by a Cal player since the 2006 campaign.
• She also tied Droneberger and Rugiero for the team lead with nine kills versus the Pioneers.
• Favata guided the offense with a team-high 20 assists in the win.
• Junior transfer Caroline Mercer led four players in double-digit digs with 17.
• Droneberger, sophomore Kay Lindenfelser and junior Ashlyn Brookover each finished with 10 digs.

NEXT
• The Vulcans continue play at their home invitational tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 14, when they face Frostburg State at 3 p.m.
